The YMCA is for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We offer a variety of active adult programs including group exercise classes, aquatic fitness classes, games and social opportunities, medically based classes, and day and multi-day trips. Our programs allow older adults to remain active and grow in spirit, mind and body.

Lunch Bunch
A monthly covered dish luncheon held on the first Thursday of the month for YMCA members and their guests. Participants bring a covered dish and enjoy either an educational program or entertainment following the luncheon. It’s a great way to meet our members.   September's luncheon will feature guest speaker, Lillian Lincoln Lambert, author of The Road to Someplace Better: From the Segregated South to Harvard Business School and Beyond

Book Club (Literary Lovers Lunch League)
Meets the second Thursday of every month at 12:30 p.m. Members choose, read and review their book selections. Call our front desk for book selections and meeting places at 598-0250.

Bridge/Canasta
Meets each Tuesday from 12:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS
Various meetings held at Powhatan and other "Southside" branches.

COOKING CLASS
A new program!  Learn to create delicious foods with culinary expert Chef Pamela Sloan.  Classes range from individual (age 8 and up) to family registration.  Please check times, dates and healthy class themes that would fit your schedule and join us for a great time.   Click here for flyer!

A great new art program!  Have you ever wanted to learn the art of painting on glassware - for gifts?  for holidays?  for the fun of it?  Join instructor Laura Toomey and get creative!

FITNESS/WELLNESS
Our branch offers many different exercise classes that are appropriate for the mature adult - such as water aerobics and low impact aerobic classes.  Visit our Schedules page to view this month's group exercise schedule.

Silver Sneakers
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. Members receive a basic fitness center membership at no cost. The program includes use of basic amenities and access to our signature SilverSneakers class. SilverSneakers is currently being offered to Medicare-eligible members of Humana Health Insurance plan. Medicare-eligible members are adults age 65 or older, or, in some cases, those of any age deemed disabled and receiving Medicare.

SilverSneakers classes will be open to facility members as well. For more information, please call front desk at 598-0250.
